How did Poughkeepsie CrossFit get started?
The idea of Poughkeepsie CrossFit started in 2011. I had been working and training at Hudson Valley CrossFit since 2008. 2011 is when CrossFit seemed to be really blowing up. Gyms were popping up all around. We decided we needed to open up a gym in Poughkeepsie because it seemed to have a huge potential for growth. As soon as a found a good location, we jumped on it and got it going. We opened March 19th, 2012.
What makes Poughkeepsie CrossFit special?
Haha, Poughkeepsie CrossFit is very special. We have so many different types of people. We have Regional and Games athletes, but it doesn’t start and stop there. It’s cool to have that, and it’s amazing that we have been able to create that, but it’s the other 98% that makes us special. We have IBMers, students and employees from Marist College, Vassar College, Culinary Institute, cops, firefighters, stay at home moms, bankers, and waiters… come to think of it, we are probably just like any other CrossFit gym.
What is a fun fact about you or your team?
We are currently in the process of finalizing the details of a relocation. We are moving across the street to a 3200 sq ft facility. 15′ ceilings, wide open floor plan. We have hired 2 new trainers and are very excited for the future of Poughkeepsie CrossFit. I attribute so much of this to WODHOPPER which is truly awesome CrossFit Software. The consistency it provides us and the ability to manage our funds better, has been extremely helpful this past year.
How has WODHOPPER improved your box?
WODHOPPER has been a life saver! Seriously. I first met WODHOPPER at the Games in 2012. I loved the program, the design, the simplicity. I put off buying an iPad and setting up an account for about 2 years. I stayed in touch with David, and finally pulled the trigger. Before WODHOPPER, we used mostly Square for CC payments, and lots of cash. Now, we no longer use Square, 90 percent of sales are on WODHOPPER, with some cash here and there. It’s so helpful to know exactly what’s coming in every month. It makes paying bills so much easier and less stressful.
How has the benchmark and WOD tracking improved your community?
I’ll let you know when I actually start using it. We used it for a little while, and people loved it, because they can see what other people from other classes got on the WODs. It’s 100% my fault that it’s not being utilized. We will get back on it soon, I promise.
